When I got my first job in an industrial setting I went and got a pair of 1907's because I wanted a boot that would last and would be able to get resoled, 2 years later I got the resole and they're still the most comfortable boot I own.

I actually own both model boots, 1907 in size 11D and 875 in size 10E2. From day one, the 1907 was much easier to break in than the 875 and the 1907 feels way more comfortable with the cushioned insole. Regardless of the differences, I enjoy wearing both boots equally. So for those people with wide feet, you definitely will need to purchase different sized boots in order for your feet to feel comfortable in them.

Found a decet pairof 1907's at my local thrift storefor$20 today! I'm going to clean them up and wear them this weekend for my girlfriends birthday!

I own both, and really am liking the structured appearance of the 875. The 1907 just seem to be getting floppier and floppier. I enjoy the classic rigidity of my 875!

Great breakdown. I do think it possible that the Norwegian ridge (not quite a welt) serves like a fin, or a ring of lifeboats. It lifts above the water, fighting off flooding with sheer style and attitude.

Love my 875 EE's. No break-in needed whatsoever.
40 years ago I had Irish Setter moc toes that took a month to break in but when that was accomplished , they fit perfectly.
Thanks for your post and assessment of Redwings which I agree with whole heartedly!

I bought my 1907s first about a year ago and I absolutely love them. The most comfortable boot I have. I just got a pair of 875s a few days ago and still breaking them in. I put the 1907s through hell and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.

I started off with the 1907 then added the 875 as a second pair. I still own the 1907. The extra room just works better for my feet. I wear them without the added leather insole. I bought the 8883 after getting rid of the 875 and other than the Concrete Rough & Tough taking longer to break in they're now just as comfortable as the 1907.

Perfect comparison!!! Thank you so much for making this one for everyone trying to learn the difference between 23 and 45 last. The Norwegian "like" welt has been a mystery from the start, but I think they at least partially added it to make the profile of the toe box appear to be lower profile.

Awesome that you made this video. I was in between both of these and decided on the 1907s since they felt wider and a tad more of my style. Thanks for breaking them down. I didn't know that it had a "fake" storm welt. Oh well.

I own the 877 and the 1907 ( the 1907 was my first pair of redwings), and I surprisingly find that the 877 - which is on the same last as the 875- was easier for me to break in compared to the 1907 which I took the inserts out of at the advice of a redwing employee from a stridewise video. Both are fantastic after being broken in, and these are pretty much the only shoes I wear anymore.

I have the 875’s. A little tough to break in, but once you do they are so comfortable you won’t want to take them off.
Over the last few years I’ve learned that while synthetic foam is great out of the box all it does is break down over time.
It’s worth it to get the 875/877’s and slowly break them in…

I'll be here to say it. Keep the videos long. I love when you take your time to explain everything

I bought the 8138 model a few weeks back and wear them almost daily. It was my first pair of dressy/casual boots and I just purchased the 1907 since I really wanted that style/color originally. Excited to own both pairs and wear the hell out of them over the years. I wear a 10 and in both boots I got a size 9E2 and they fit perfect. I have a narrow foot and heel.

There is a 4th difference- at least to me- the 1907 has less of a “clown toe” look. That’s why I also like THURSDAY Boots.

I want to say that in the 5 and a half years I've owned my 1907s, these have definitely been the best boots I've owned. I love that they come with the insole (on my 2nd pair of insoles now) and I definitely like the snuge feel with it in. I've had them re-soled 2 years ago with the Vibram heavy lug *as seek on the ice breaker. Didn't add anything for comfort but you get used to it. I mainly wanted the sole for the grip and longevity. I've also had the heal pocket repaired by Redwing, it's just a 1-1.5mm price of black leather they glue and stitch into the rear of the boot. My opinion they are definitely worth the money.

I'm actually thinking of getting a pair of 1907s in the next couple of weeks, so this was invaluable. Also, I think Red Wing makes an 8876 which is basically an 875 with Copper Rough and Tough leather.

From my experience I can say if you have a wide foot go with the 1907. I have an very wide foot but the 1907 in 9.5EE fit perfect. I have had mine for 2 years and they never come off my feet I use them for work I use them for hiking (I’m in south Florida so flat ground wouldn’t recommend for rocky trails as they don’t have tread) I clean them up and wear them casually they are perfect for any occasion. If you are going to buy a pair just know that breaking them in will be a long painful process but when they are good and broken in there is nothing more comfortable.

Tried on 875s and 1907s in Wisconsin at a RW store a few years back. For me, the sizing was immediately different. Not sure if it was the insole or a mistake, but the 1907 felt tighter on the instep of my foot. The 1907 also had slightly less length. Same size and width, too.

Red Wing's 2440 boot would be a great addition to the channel. They're a good blend of work and heritage from what I can tell.
