If you are having trouble formatting your USB Drive, according to Arlo's KB, they use FAT32 formatting within the app.

To format to FAT32 format, open File Explorer or Disk Management, right-click your drive, choose "Format, " select "FAT32" from "File System, " and choose "Start" or "OK." To do that from Command Prompt or PowerShell, run the "format /FS:FAT32 X:" command replacing "X" with your drive letter.

do you have to disconnect the harddrive to view the videos? Can you not view them through the app on your phone? (like if you dont have the cloud storage)

Unfortunately you have to pay extra for continuous storage even if it’s local. I understand for cloud but restrictions on local just to force us into spending more is a deal breaker.

Also, can you reccord/save more than 7 days on your USB?

Can you access the videos that get saved in the drive remotely. Or do you always have to pull it out and attach to a PC? Does the drive have to be a certain format? I own a MacBook.

Arlo doesn’t provide video access anymore unless you buy into their subscription plan (ugh!). Is there a way to view videos captured onto your external hard drive “instantly?”

It will not format the USB drive on my VMB4000 base.
It says it needs to format.

Tried several external hard drives and USB thumb drives and Arlo will NOT format any of them! Help!! Arlo support is garbage.

Arlo introduces EOL policy, the local storage may fix the discontinue of 7 day cloud storage, how about the discontinue of email notification?

Do you have to use their cloud service to have the local storage option? I don't like the idea of storing my private home security online.

Not sure if you can help or not. I have the arlo pro 2 with 2 camera and hub. I then bought 3 essential cameras model Vmc2030. After the free trial online storage and monitoring is there a way to connect them all together to record on the hub or external hard drive. The essentials camera give me an alert but if whatever set it off is nit still there I cant see what did set it off.

Does anyone know what the largest drive that the Arlo will recognize is? I'd be down to just grab an 8 tb external, but I don't want to if it won't recognize something that big.

+1👍 my 64GB usb has been saving all year and is still not full! also, end-users should be aware that this is almost a requirement since when you lose internet you have no chance of having recordings unless you have that external storage!
