Death in the Desert: 6 killed in rural San Bernardino County

Remote dirt crossroads in the Mojave Desert was the scene of a grisly discovery Tuesday night. KTLA 5's Shelby Nelson reports. Jan. 24, 2024.

Back in my earlier days, I used to do a lot of off-highway driving in that area, chasing trains along the railroad, checking out ghost towns and old mines, and tracking down some of the dozens of aircraft crash sites all over that part of the desert. The last time I went off-road in that area, I saw a lot of evidence of clandestine pot farming, and got the impression that one individual was actually trying to follow me in another vehicle. Given the recent uptick of violence in areas such as Hesperia and Victorville, I have now decided that maybe exploring this area alone is no longer a good idea... 😐

That used to a popular place to go on the weekends to target shoot and ride dirt bikes. Back when this was America.

I've camped in that area. Target shooting and riding ATVs. There's a lot of pot farms out there. And a lot of homeless people. And a lot of stripped stolen vehicles.

Used to ride dirt bikes out there about 40 years ago. It was a great open place to hang out back then. Not so much anymore....

Lot of holes in the desert. A lot of problems are buried in those holes.
