Allowing only authorised people to access computer labs, banning use of USBs, blocking pop ups and keeping a check on appearance of new and unfamiliar icons on desktop are among the cyber security and safety guidelines issued to schools and parents by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT). The guidelines issued on Tuesday also ask teachers to “regularly review browsing history on the devices being used by children” and “monitor device usage by students” and not to engage with cyberbullies. On this edition of The Big Picture we discuss how to deal with cyberbullying and related problems.

Anchor: Frank Rausan Pereira

Guests:

One suggestion could be " we need to include the cyber bullying as the concept and how to prevent it in the school curriculum right from 6th standard so that when the kid study about this things he's well aware about the extent of cyber bullying and under it what's legal or illegal could also be taught and above all the schools must have a setup at the place to listen to children what's the trouble that they are facing in the cyberspace, as you can't always keep an eye on everyone rather educate them and listen to them will solve this issue" hope this is being forwarded to the concerned authorities

Thanks to all for discussing on such an important topic. Its really a sensitive issue require consideration from parents, teachers as well as people in general.
For parents I would like to suggest try to avoid providing the devices like mobile, tablets, etc to their children at a very early age. Try to make your child know what are the real benefits and threats of IT & how it effect our daily life. If your child is using any social media app try to check that on regular basis and even have check on his friend list to know with whom he/she is interacting. Brows the history on his/her device on regular basis. Even have an eye on deleted items.
Set time for them for using these devices or using internet.

I am a student, I do not agree.

We have to see why we want our children to live in a certain way, which is acceptable to us. Until today, internet remains the biggest repository of random articles of varied nature. The exposure, which a child gets, is unparalleled. Parents may keep the computer in family area and have common mobile but snooping on web history should not be an option. Children need their own space to experiment and sometimes learn by experiences, in a hard way. Children have a natural desire for privacy, which does not necessarily equate with illicit behaviour. Children these days are incredibly savvy in terms of technology and they will find ways to do what they are not allowed to do. Parents are kidding themselves if they think that they can monitor and control their kid’s internet usage. If a kid wants to watch something in private, he is well equipped to do so.
Whatever children explore on internet is at their own will. It should not be of concern to parents as they are the ones who will have to live with the consequences. Parents are required on their part to educate kids of dangers posed by certain section on internet, social media and express what they feel the boundaries should be and then leave it on their wards to apply their sense of judgement and decide for himself or herself what is right or what is wrong.
Maybe the way forward should be to give the children, the technological freedom while ensuring that they feel loved enough to turn to parents for support when needed.

next time grown ups discuss on a policy for us, please include a kid as well.

We need "Cyber Security Awareness Clinics" the one initiated at the University of Portsmouth. All stakeholders together and better knowledge exchange programmes at campuses.

How a younger child come to know these kinds of threatening tricks? Cyber bulling is just the modern way of threatening. We are moving towards fiercely conflict-ridden society where greatness is measured on the basis of stupid assets.
Point is children learn more by observing. The adult sites are explicit part of internet. All schools have to ban these kinds of sites in school network area as how many children are above 18 in schools. The parents have to take responsibility what digital matter the children have to watch either movies, tv shows, news etc...

have a neighbor who uses 2 ways nanny camera and sends loud noise at night to my unit when I am sleeping. No-one seems know about this not even police. Cyber bullying is not with texts, emails or social media. People use this camera to monitor their kids and pets remotely and he is using it to bother me because he is an idiot!

In addition to this I think Frank's smile is also dangerous and can kill someone a day.Look it again at the end of discussion
.These all malicious things happens due to loneliness(khali dimmag saitaan ka dimaag), as most of victim or accused are those who don't have anyone to complain about it as their parents are busy earning money.Parents should engage their children in activities which should be more interesting than useless surfing over the net like in music, drawing, yoga, sports, meditation or in any cca which will keep our brothers/sisters engaged with them. They will automatically be disciplined and will abstain themselves away from harmful and disadvantageous things.Yes!Keep smiling like Frank does.
