One of the central reasons for Italian Neorealism filmmakers & cinematographers to use natural lighting as well as new crews & casts who had no filmmaking experience was that World War II had uprooted their movie making industry & they had to start from scratch.

That style or techniques of Italian Neorealism filmmaking was more out of using what they had more so than purposely making a distinctive filmmaking aesthetic.

Even Cinecittà could not immediately find the grooves of success that they helped craft with their industry display of "professional filmmaking" for all of Europe to follow, before World War II.

This was a great episode about Néstor Almendros, who was certainly a 20th Century cinematographer who showed us how talent & visually photographing motion-pictures could be cohesively harmonious. Thank you for sharing.

Great overview! It's worth mentioning that during the filming of 'Days Of Heaven', Almendros was experiencing rapid eyesight loss. Most of the film was shot with him being almost blind. An assistant helped him compose the shots by taking a Polaroid of the frame which he could see using strong glasses. His work is even more stunning and meaningful if you think about that!!! Truly amazing

This is absolutely my episode so far; I always wonder how to light like Rohmer or Bresson's late work; they have an old painting quality. I wish there were more videos covering this, or maybe breaking down the cinematography of Passages, which is the most astonishing cinematography, even comparing films like Poor Things, which is also a great film to do a beak down. Thank you guys! I love this channel!

Really love the list of Cinematography Style. Thank you sir.
If I may, I request a video about the style of Mahmoud Kalari (Iran) and Yudi Datau (Indonesia).

Wow, a shooting ratio of 1.5 to 1, we had a shooting ratio of 5 to 1 on our recent student short film, and our tutors were telling us how insanely little that was....

Thank you.
I love this channel.
I would not like to do this
But it s a neccesity.
I thought that you used at least two shots lensed by H. Wexler in the video.
Im pretty sure of that
Sadly neither mr Wexler, nor John Bailey, the Ac on Days of Heaven are alive to explain.
