Excited to try this out. Upping the res with QGO and just like with Bricktales the mixed reality combined with the higher res looks fantastic, being able to look around like staring at a diorama in front of you is so satisfying. There are so many 2.5D games that could be ported similar to this. A full on 2.5D JRPG that can be played entirely in MR could be GOTY material tbh.

Imagine a 2.5D JRPG with real time combat and even light platforming elements where each environment is a diorama. One day I hope.

A lot of the videos for this on youtube are sponsored so I appreciate that you could talk about the negatives.

it's awesome. Legit 90s RPG glory, set up right in front of you as a diorama. Indeed major hurdle is 2D cutscenes - they're clearly not video, why not at least display as framed 3D or better freeform diorama just as in battles or exploration?

that aside and the annoying dithering effect to hide away scenery geometry from obstructing view of the action.

I also wish it had a bit of scaling of the diorama as in Demeo. Just as addictive as it, but much more depth in gameplay and story of course.

Japanese voice acting is just much better 😂

sounds like a typical JRPG, starts slow but then you're hooked.
dont think id want to play a JRPG in VR, for me they're better enjoyed on a tv/monitor

Yeah the first part really is drawn out. I am okay with it as I have played a lot of exposition heavy games and I know those early hours are setting up the foundation of the story that's going to come later, but eeesh, I was thinking at the two hour mark of game lore dump "Some people will have lost patience by this point". Two hours in and I had only just made it to my second fight.

You just need to be aware going in that there is a lot of political and backstory setup before you get into the meat of the game. I mean a lot of fans of Strategy RPGs are going to come in knowing to expect this sort of slow start, laying groundwork and setting things up, before getting into it, but I do hope more casual folks have the patience to get into it proper.

I know that people who like these sort of games will already be on board for this stuff, I just wish it was a little more exciting for noobies who might be putting their foot in since this style of game is not hugely common on VR.

Side note, this is one I often play in passthrough mode as its easier to spend a couple of hours in VR when you can still easily interact with the real world without even leaving the game.

Edit: I recommend running it with Quest Game Optimizer if you have a quest 3 as you can bump the res up to 130% with no performance hit and the added res makes all the text boxes much sharper and easier to read.

It has lost all the dynamic lighting and ambient occlusion of PC and Switch, the ambience of the scenarios has been completely destroyed. I hope they bring it out on PC VR or PS VR2 with the original graphical effects.

I will never buy VR exclusives, th4e industry is too small to support exclusives and it creates fractures in the industry, so I'll never buy this. They don't even sell on consoles anymore, IDK why meta wants to ruin these games.
