Birth of the Renaissance - Mr. Hooper

In terms of literature, Renaissance writers not only produced works that reflected their time but also techniques that writers rely on today. They would write in their own native language or vernacular, instead of classical Latin. Writers did this for self-expression or to portray the individuality of their subjects. One of the most famous Renaissance writers was Machiavelli, who’s famed work The Prince examines how a ruler can gain power and keep it in spite of his enemies. Machiavelli believed a ruler might have to trick his enemies and his people for the good of the state, he was not concerned with what was morally right, but with what was politically effective.
