I think she considers 9 as an upperbound to make the difference of upperbound and least upperbound(supremum) which is 8 itself. Similar for lowerbound and infimum.

5 is also a lower bound and 8 is also upper bound, In that open set can be all <5 and all >8 is also lower and upper bound.

I was having the same strangles as you (Rashad), the bound does not have to be in the set at all. There is another concept of a bound that requires it to be in the set, but in this case you can even say 0, or 5, or -500 are all lower bounds. sort of like the bounds form an envelope around the set, or just from above or below. Any naming anything within that envelope is perfectly ok. I wonder if we should define l in R first.

should the upper and the lower bounds also need to be real, since A is a set of real No's.?

hi. may I know why 4 is lower bound but not 5 itself? the set does not take the value of 5 since it is open interval but "a" cannot take value of 4 since it is outside the interval. however the lesser or equal sign opposes this statement. my point is how can the set be equal to it bound while that bound lies outside its set.
