The lf File Manager is Ranger But Better

Today I take a look at a terminal file manager that will seem very familiar to any users of Ranger, it goes by the lf (List Files). It's a very similar looking program but instead of being written in Python it's written in Go.

8:18 Using the go get command, you won't have to compile it yourself. It will be compiled already. Though you will have to install go first, if not yet installed in your system, and setup $GOPATH or just use the default.

U should have screenkeys on especially for such a video where you keep pressing keyboard shortcuts

Well done. I recently switched from ranger to lf. Another lf advantage is it works on Windows too. I would never choose Windows but that's what I'm stuck with at work. PS: Void Linux has a lf package, which includes a man page. I imagine other distros do too.

It took me a long time to have ranger configured as it is now and I'm so comfortable with it. But ls seems to be much lighter and faster. Worth a shot. Will be using your lfrc at first.

Can't you preview images with sxiv by modifying the lfrc file?

Have you found a replacement for the "bulkrename" function from "ranger"?

lf seems great in theory but it doesn't support tabs and other functionality that I'm used to in Ranger. It requires you to learn and customize other tools to be able to have that functionality, and I'm not going to learn tmux just to have tabs in my file manager.

Nice video! But how to run the mappings in lf? As per documentation 'gh' should be a default mapping for 'go home'. Am I supposed to write :gh oder !gh or gh? None of it works. Any suggestions?

Great! Now I have to spend a weekend configuring this thing until I am happy. And of course I won't be able to help myself for trying to get the most suitable configuration for my particular specific taste. Oh god, why did I chose linux, I would be configuring lf now if I didn't have other things to do :P

I am actually trying lf because I need something to use with keybindings as I installed qutebrowser and now using a file manager like nautilus feels obsolete. Who needs a mouse anyways?

0:53 wow, so old video of yours. but honestly, i am liking the audio and voice here better. feels more natrual, more pleasant.

i dont know, the audio in your recent videos feels sharp and also feels like you are forcefully trying to emphasise or accent words certain way. the difference is probably not much, but its impact on the experience is definitely much much noticeable

lf has a manpage. You have to copy the lf.1 file over to:

/usr/share/man/man1/lf.1

I'm really new to Linux call me a noob but I want to learn this video is really amazing but I did not understand how do you set the custom key mapping but then I saw the other video of yours where you show the lfrc but I''m not able to use the lfrc I don't know how to set the path for it. It would be of great help if you make a video on how to setup various paths and where did you set up the path for lfrc also I'm on Ubuntu so how deferentially do I have to set

Good video, I subscribed. I am currently using lf. I can't turn off previews for some reason, I tried set preview false in my config but it's not working.
