Lava is slow in the overworld, so i reckon you could try to dig down to outrun it until you can put a block above you, bit risky, but there isnt many options

The only way to escape is to start digging down and praying to overtake the lava and have time to close the tunnel above you with a block.

Just mine down a few more blocks to distance yourself and dig forwards a few, block off the original hole, and dig back up. That was you dont get burned and the lava doesnt spread on the floor of the cave cause it gets caught in the hole.
