A look at the elements that go into making a great super deluxe edition, with examples from my favorite Beatles and Solo Beatles packages.

Warning: there is a brain misfire where I refer to Flaming Pie as Flowers in the Dirt. D’Oh!

Great video today Matthew, I never hesitate to order the super deluxe editions for any Beatles or solo Beatles item usually I get vinyl and CDs just to have the hard cover book. I think Let It Be was the only release where the vinyl included a hard cover. The group you showed were definitely worth the money, , wish they would release something new soon and not all at once say for Christmas. Looking forward to anything new at this point! Take care.

Hi Matt, great video and a great topic. I pretty much agree with you about what makes a great deluxe box set. I usually go for the deluxe version of any release which generally means CD so I always buy one of the vinyls that come out at the same time, for the Paul Archive Collection and for the John Lennon ones so far that has been CD deluxe and the double vinyls which is the main album on one record and a selection of outtakes on the second. I don't know why I buy the double LP because I never play the second LP as I will already have the songs on the CD box, but once I started doing that, I had to keep it going :-) My priority on these sets is the musical content. Paul was pretty stingy with the bonus audio on the first few archive releases, but I think he saw what Yoko was doing with johns stuff and the more recent archives have been much better for bonus audio (flaming Pie, Flowers, 1971-73). Im less bothered about video content because I won't watch these many times but the audio I will play a lot . hardback book is definitely a must and I like the replicas of things from the time like concert tickets or tour programmes. George's ATMP was disappointing from the book perspective. I got the CD box you have and the green and black splattered vinyl which is just the album and apple jam . The book with the vinyl was even less satisfying as it was a flimsy thing with only a few pages. you only get the hardback book with the uber deluxe and the 8 LP ATMP. I was considering the 8LP juts to get the book but having seen it, its not much better than the CD book except it has a hard cover. That was a disappointment (I did my first ever you tube video about this), not enough info about the sessions and the songs Im afraid. So if im picking my 4 favourites as you did, I would say Let it Be, Wings 1971-73, Plastic Ono band and Flaming Pie. cheers Matthew

I agree that if you're going to ask 100 dollars or more for these sets a hard cover book is a must.George's estate should have done something along the lines of Paul or John's deluxe sets.Looking forward to whatever is around the bend.Take care.

Awesome looking collection, I don't get into the solo stuff as much, but I have the Beatles sets and they're wonderful, even Abbey Road. All Things Must Pass was cool, not the greatest and definitely not worth the money it cost.
