Today we'll talk about some of the amazing possibilities when combining your After Effects workflow with Unreal Engine. We're starting to see new technology shifts that make vfx artists jobs easier and more readly availible for the every day hobbies or indie developer. I'll show you how to extract your camera data out of after effects and into Unreal Engine. Set up your footage in Unreal as a reference, and finally composite a realtime 3D scene in the background using assets for UE Megascans or the UE marketplace. Enjoy!

TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 - Intro
1:02 - Ae 3D Camera Track
4:00 - Isolating subject and background
6:00 - Importing camera data into Unreal Engine
12:50 - Building a 3D environment
14:50 - Rendering and final touchup in After Effects

Is it possible to create overlays to use in OBS with UE5?

Thanks! I tried camera tracking but it always gave me headaches in the past, so I just used placecards with the green screen footage.

A small tip, it comes handy in certain situations to use the material shading model to "Lit", because it blends the subject into the environment. If there is a blue light in the scene, it will also light your subject and blend it (not realistically, its a plane after all). For extra blend, have in mind what Unreal scene and its lighting when shooting a green screen

PS
May the Gods have mercy on helping the poor VFX artist @ 1:46... that green shirt 🤣

Wow thanks how can we do if we use Davinci resolve and not after effects

Can you do without AE like some other tracking software

My dream is that there is an option to have a normal map for videos. So we can put the video with the image plate in Unreal, and it gets realistic lighting in the engine. That would be fucking awesome

When dealing with plates you need accurate plate and lanse information. Distortion ls and parallax will never be accurate otherwise. do you have a distortion solve in engine to be able to use the plate?

hi have you experimented with adding a camera shake blueprint or any other method for camera shake while using the media plate, as with mine it makes the camera shake but it also leaves the media plate so the image stays still and doesn't follow the camera shake. actually it is affecting the image plate layer but its distorting it all over the place. Id love to put some camera shake on this shot in unreal so it uses the dynamic background when the camera is shaking about

One question, couldn’t the whole process end at 14:50? What is the purpose of bringing it all back again to after effects? If you do that, the final result would be using UE as just a background image. Great video thanks.

Hi there. I would like to ask something. Do you have to create media texture for each and every clip? I gave up unreal because it's not feasible to create media textures and load each 50 different shots and render them one at a time like what you showed here. Is there a better workflow? All virtual production tutorial stops at this exact process of showing how to composite 1 single footage.

Hi, is there a way to do the exact same thing in DaVinci resolve?

Do you think it is better to use blender or Unreal Engine or Cinema 4d for Adobe After effects workflow.?

Can you please do a tut on adding grillz to a metahuman but without using blender. lol

Hello, Mr. Novak, I'd like to know if you have time to do collaboration from scratch to finish on a Christian epic African story written by me. And love your work. Thanks

Why not just render a background in UE with a static camera and then attach it to the tracker data at 03:05 ? That's so much easier than trying to bring all this to UE via Cinema 4D. It's not a camera fly through the environment, it's very subtle motion and parallax won't be visible. Shaking background footage with camera track would be more than enough.
