DIXIE RED (LYRICS)
Draw a picture that I can’t trace
Or shield it from my mind
Sharp and heavy is the angel’s face
And gilded are the lines

Blue smoke from my cigarette
Danced upon my eye
Moon has risen and it lit your way
To Paradise

Dixie red lie in the grass
Like a diamond cut in half
It shines like gold
And it can’t be sold
Or even walked past

The morning whispers amazing grace
The evening it just sighs
Donald and Lydia in disarray
Will live a hundred lives

Boundless in the evergreen waters
Gently down the stream
Green River knows you as its father
Life is but a dream

Dixie red lie in the grass
Like a diamond cut in half
It shines like gold
And it can’t be sold
Or even walked past

If you don't KNOW John Prine's songs well, it may slip by you that this is a beautiful tribute to him! Here is what Tre had to say about writing this prayed under an old Oak tree in my neighborhood a lot for John and his family while he was in the hospital last year. In the days following his passing I was mostly silent and listened to The Tree of Forgiveness non-stop. One night, I was standing on my porch looking at the full moon through a break in the trees over my street. It was especially silver and awfully large. The moon looked as if it were signaling John’s safe arrival to the other side. I felt privileged to witness this message sent for his family. ‘Dixie Red’ is a southern grown peach and that line from “Spanish Pipedream” has always been so potent to me. So I used a peach as imagery to represent John’s body of work he left behind for all of us." Thank God for John Prine! KP

Can't celebrate the great John Prine enough. So many wonderful tracks and I'm sure many to come from Tre Burt. Thank you for what you do.

He threw ‘Paradise’ and ‘Donald and Lydia’ in there too which was another evidence of a tribute. I guess I should have known. Makes me want to blow up my TV, move to the country, plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches and try to find Jesus. I even heard a little Dylan in his voice. Bought it and shared with my Madre.

I shared "Told Ya Then" with my buddy a few weeks ago, and he shares this one with me yesterday. Hopefully the trend continues because you deserve it. Amazing Talent!!
