I was in second grade when this song came out. I didn't really know what the lyrics meant and I definitely didn't know the whole story of Andy Kaufman that was behind it, but I was still just captivated by it.

As a Brit I can’t really say I found Andy Kaufman funny as I’m sure many of my fellow countrymen also feel. I’m of an age to know who he was and remember seeing him in Taxi but again he didn’t make me laugh. Clearly though to Americans he was a icon and it’s good to remember ones icons as Andy has been through music such as this. Can’t say I’m an REM fan either but the tunes they’ve made about the man are very touching
