80s curls were all about perms and roller sets. Not catering to your natural curl. Even the Jerry- curl used perm to organize the curl pattern. Lots of hair spray, moose, setting lotion, blow drying and treasing the hair to make tons of volume.

As someone with semi curly hair(more wavey but somewhere in between) brushed curls genuinely look nice and are more practical! I always just brush my hair normally, put a bit of oil to avoid frizz and voila voluminous and elegant! (Especially with short hair) Ofc defined curls are as pretty too and more practical for curlier hair than mine especially who doesnt want any more volume, yet I never understood people who shamed me for brushing my hair lol

I don’t have hair nearly that curly, mines mostly wavy with some more defined curls in places, but I rock the 80’s look daily. I do not have the effort for all the steps involved in defining curls. I use a shampoo and conditioner that makes my hair feel nice, I air dry, and brush it.
