How A Heat Pump Water Heater Works And Helps Save Energy

I just installed one of these in my home a couple weeks ago. I turned off the elements and use it in heat pump mode only. We love it.

My dad has had a Rheem heat pump hot water system for almost 10 years.

The only problem he has had with it is bad connections in the compressor circuit & it's the most complained about 310i unit that Rheem has discontinued.

I'm an electrician by trade & I found out that the connections to the compressor were loose so I tightened them up, so I think that's all that goes wrong with them besides the water pump in them failing.

They are a great unit for my climate which is between the central & mid north coast of New South Wales in Australia but they aren't very good down as far as Melbourne in Victoria or in Tasmania during winter time.

Let's see, my electric bill is about $300 per month and electricity is now around $.50 per kilowatt hour. My gas bill used for heating hot water, is around $11 per month.

The BEST HEAT PUMP W/H, IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE EVEN SOLD HERE IN USA, STEILBTRON ELECTRO, made in GERMANY for about70 years and I never heard of anybody running out of water, nor noise, the CONDENSER TUBING IS EXTRRNALLY, AROUND ITS TANK, ITalso has just 1 electric heater at top, so suddenly RHEEM `HAS DONE THE SAME THIG WITHJUST1 MODEL, I WONDER WHY ?

If this water heater is in a room you are heating then does pumping heat from that room into water actually save money?

I suspect a gas water heater would be a better option for people living in a northern climate unless you use a heat pump to heat your home.

I'd really like to see some numbers based on climate in a home heated by gas.

One doubt. If nobody uses hotwater. Then after reaching max temp of water, the condenser coil canot transfer anymore heat.. So with out heat transfer how the cooling system works and how we get cool air. Please dont tell its only for hot water not for AC. Then its overall efficiency will fall down drastically.
