for a insectoid species with roots in usocial structure to have achieved sentience and reach space, they must have made quite the jump in learning to think since i'd not have expected them to be ABLE to understand how a species can shrug of one job and take up another.

great story.

According to studies only about 0.5-1% of Danish soldiers feel any kind of remorse for having had to kill enemy combatants in Afghanistan. Humans can adapt to anything.

Jack of all trades wise words verry wise words indeed. Its hard to surprise us Experds on farming no problem we adapt and harvest more. Master Merchants no Problem we adapt and earn more. Best Soldiers of the Universe nahhh wait a bit we will adapt and win more Battles. A Farmer can become a Merchant a Merchant a Soldier a Soldier can become a Farmer. And all in betwen and the other way around.

Former soldier: I was a part of many things that I am not proud of and I've lost a good many friends.

Flyaxuan: How are you able to forget about it and live a normal life afterwards?

Former soldier I haven't and I never will.

Basically Rambo.

That we can adapt to life after war is what makes our race terrifying

There was one of these stories I once read but have been unable to find since. It was about how humans were meant to be harmless, that may have been titled, They were meant to be harmless.

It told of how the galaxy came under attack and the alliance failed and every species retreated to the own systems/worlds to try and prepare any sort of defence and the first species was left to fight alone, already almost completely destroyed, but then a lone human ship came and deployed a nanite bomb or some such similar device and the brutal success left the survivors in awe and their priority was to reclassify humanity as peaceful. A life they chose because they were just too good at war.

I was so sure this was going to go down a 'this means any human you come across can have improved combat capabilities! How terrifying! How can you win a war against a people who do not seperate their fighting and their ruling and working classes!'.

One is never a former soldier, or marine, you have just become "inactive".

"Being in the military has made me realize one thing. When we humans do become a fully-fledged space-faring race, there will be few things that will actually scare us, and fewer still to actively defy us.

If we are to encounter civilizations more advanced than us, they will likely be complacent, and won't know how to deal with us. We, on the other hand, have already created countless simulated universes where humanity faces off against equally countless foes, ranging from bug hives to the galactic equivalent of our own UN or NATO, and even a few existential threats to make it all perfectly seasoned.

With all of this source material, plus our species' knack for on-the-fly innovation, the only force that can really beat us will be either ourselves or another species that's just as cunning and deadly as us.

We might seem like just a small rock at the edge of a lake. In reality? We have the ability to bend the universe itself to our will. That is what will make us so terrifying. That is why we won't be a race to be messed with."

I love the message of adaptation but the Martian independence sounds cool too

Independent Mars? Sound like 40K to me...

I like this salute to all soldiers of humanity. Many struggle to adapt to peace after service. Some never fully do. But the vast majority try. I'd like to see our societies, all of them, spend more time helping those people and less time sending them into war zones.

Have a look at something called the Gremlins at the hfy subreddit. It might interest you too.

You adapt or you die. There are no other options.
I can not speak for others but… I would rather have never left the battlefield.
