A new power generation unit of the Baihetan hydropower station, the world's second-largest in terms of total installed capacity, began commercial operation after a successful 72-hour operation test. The newly operating power generation Unit 12 is the 13th hydro-generating unit with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts installed and running in Baihetan, which will be equipped with 16 such hydro-generating units. The 13 operating power generation units have generated more than 46 billion kWh of energy thus far.

I have been keeping an eye on this hydro. It is nice to see Unit No. 12 is the 13th units put into commercial operation. Only 3 more to go.

The unit is Baihetan is the world's record holder as the world's biggest Francis turbine producing 1, 000MW. The biggest hydro turbine outside China is 800MW available for order. Wudongde of China first broke the world record with 12 units of 850MW. Baihetan is China breaking its own record with 1, 000MW for a single machine.

Baihetan took about 5 years to construct. This is a feat in itself for being the world's second biggest hydro power plant. It had two unit put into commercial operation in July 2021 so in little over 14 months 11 units each 1, 000MW have been commissioned.

i think that it would be neat to put a hydroelectric dam in a valley that has no river between snowcapped mountains (in a place where they are covered with snow year round, yet gets well above 75 degrees at ground level. How much melted snow runoff can generate electricity?🤔 Obviously it would have to be a small project dam

WHY? Why are all hydro dams running one bank of turbines when three banks are possible? It's not for the reasons you may think of such as turbine surging due to back pressure well it's not so see R, D, P, Marine Australia
