This works with any corpse. I used a dead chicken in Rivington because I can’t be bothered to find a rat.

I love this. I decided to use Timber's corpse 😂🐿

Anyway, I found that when moving the items from the merchant's bag to the corpse, it was important to intentionally NOT have enough gold to purchase the items. I technically had enough gold the first time I tried it and it took my gold. When I made sure to have no gold on me at all, I got the items for "free".

to note: Rats and Squirrels are 2lbs, Birds are 1 pound, kill the one in front of Nettie for early access to the lightest corpse to use with it :) if you poke it to death with Speak With Animals on its also free approval with Astarion if you use him in your group

Just a note if anyone else is struggling with this the way I was (e.g. it not working at all or getting accused of theft): you NEED to have insufficient gold, as it turns out!

Fun fact, there is a rat down near the prison in the grove. That makes it really easy to use this exploit right from the very beginning.

easy rat in druid''s grove by nettie
act 2 raven literally next to last light in where you got ambushed by them (just spirit guardian them)
those items wont count in your weight, so you can techically keep duplicating them without any limit

somtimes doing it this way wont let you move items to the carcas, and it will say insufficient gold. In that case, you can just buy the items using your gold. Then, use the same method to steal the gold back (it never complains about insufficient gold when stealing only gold)

seems to work with any corpse, as long as searching it in front of witnesses doesn't count as theft of private property

We need a mod that just allows taking whatever we need from the merchant, to avoid all finicky exploits. After a while, gathering trash, managing it, then selling becomes really tedious, boring and brings nothing to the game. You end up with tons of gold anyway, so what is the point? Looting everything is the worst part of the game, so trying new builds, doing new playthroughs, it would be nice to just turn off that useless vendor mechanic and just take whatever we want, because we will get them anyway, but it will require a lot of time that is no fun.

Just tested it and it works :). I used frog's dead body instead of a rat ;P.
