The first time that I knew about this when I was 8-9 years old. Me and my siblings just let the astray cat mom gave birth and our house. After a few days, maybe 1-2, we went to her to see if the kitten already born. At that time, I see a strand of something on the kitten body, so I just think something that I didn't think before, "Oh, mammal animals are like us too." So that's how I know that they have belly button. I let the strand of string(idk what they call) fall off by themself.

I know what my 2 dogs look like. All mammals have em, its where the umbilical cord was attached.

BTW, any animal that's born and had a placental attachment will exhibit a bellybutton in various degrees. These animals also have a tendency to be born with an umbilical hernia. Often if that hernia isn't too big and if care is taken to keep intestines out it, it will close as animal grows. I've used a nickel on one or two puuppies' belly button hernias and they did close in 3-4 weeks long before they're weaned. I'd removed the cummerbund that held nickel and let me I her clean puppy. Then I rewrapped the nickel on the hernia.
