Sailing Canoe

I started a custom design/build of a small trimaran. The two outrigger hulls are built and I modified a Grumman canoe for the main hull. It is currently set up as a single outrigger sailing canoe. This is my first You Tube video and when I took the construction pictures it was more for my reference than for a you tube video so I apologze for some of the poor picture quality. The hulls are 14.5' long, 9"beam, 45 pounds, 280 pounds of bouncy, 6 oz glass and epoxy inside, 10oz outside on the hull, 6oz on the deck, 1708 biaxle 4" wide down the inside keel centerline. Western red cedar hull, meranti deck, oakume bulkheads.

Great build. The craftsmanship is intimidating. Looks like she sails well

I am about to convert a 17' Grumman, curious to see your canoe modification photos if you have them, thank you! Thanks for postings the video.

What you have here is a single outrigger, not a trimaran. A trimaran has two outer hulls, or amas as the are called.

The single outrigger is different from the proa in that it has a definite bow and stern.

The proa swaps ends when it changes tacks, so the outer hull is always either on the windward side (for a traditional proa) or on the downwind side (for an 'Atlantic' proa).
