30 years ago, development started around some rural pig farms. You couldn't help but smell the pig farms the minute you were in the area, so there was no way for these potential homeowners to be ignorant of the fact that they were there. Nevertheless, when the subdivisions finished building, neighbors started complaining at town meetings. The elected officials simply said, "You moved next to a pig farm. What were you expecting?"

The town never did anything about the pig farms, but they did eventually sell out and fade away.
