The molding is very pretty but who is going to dust all those horizontal surfaces?

My friend's lived in big house with high soaring ceilings. Apparently, soaring ceilings cause the cost of heating and cooling to go up. At times, it feels breezy inside. The noise level amplified, so they put in thick wool rugs as buffer. Still some rooms echo like a big empty room. They also had to have custom furniture made larger than standard, so it didn't look like little doll house furniture. The amount of energy expended to heat, cool such a big space, they realize is against their values, in terms of being energy conservationist. So, they are building another more practical home. Vaulted ceilings, that are 12 or 13 feet in the grand room and the kitchen/nook creates drama. We can learn from others mistakes

The most dramatic thing to do is long draping curtains for the windows, let's be honest, high ceilings without a wall of windows is useless. The next best this is a big chandelier. You're sorted.

You should say a lot of budget homes are being built with high ceiling living rooms. It's not a new design concept.

Bland, uninteresting, doesn't play up the height and no one wants that Walmart art.
