Frederick Arnand requested Derek's take on My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music. We actually had a great interpretation in the archives, so here it is!🎵

😎 About Derek:
Derek Paravicini is a musical savant. His extraordinary talent developed alongside blindness, severe autism and learning difficulties. With the gift of perfect pitch, a photographic musical memory, the ability to transpose anything instantly to any key, and his incredible abilities to learn by ear and improvise, Derek loves connecting with people via his music and absolutely loves taking requests for songs, styles and keys!

Hello everyone! Thank you so much for all the amazing comments we've been getting recently! We're always passing them on to Derek and he always loves hearing them. We are reading and noting all of your many excellent requests. It may take a little while but we are passing them on to Derek and you will see more requests make their way onto the channel bit by bit. Derek does live request sessions on Facebook from time to time too, so be sure to check out his page occasionally! Today's video is an older clip from the archives (from 2017 specifically). We know the video and audio quality from back then is not quite as good as it is with our newer recordings (most of it was recorded for live-streaming rather than for Youtube), but Derek's improvisations are always so unique and in the moment that it seems like a shame not to upload this great older stuff! In the future we might ask Derek if he'd like to reprise some of these pieces for our current multi-camera setup. =)

With the recent loss to the world of jazz pianist Lyle Mays, I was wondering if Derek knows anything by him, perhaps "Chorinho"? Or alternatively something he co-wrote for Pat Metheny Group? Thank you, love Derek's playing, love the channel, and very excited to know that our comments will reach him!

Wow! that was beautiful, Derek! <3 and despite being silly and forgetting the password to this account, I was still somehow able to sign in. Cool!
Anyway, i just wanted to say real quick, i'm very happy that you help Derek bring his music out into the world like this, and don't ever let the sometimes small number of views he gets discourage you... for we are Derek's loving fan base and we always love all his cool improvisations he does and his style of playing! This is honestly one of the most wholesome communities I've ever come across on youtube We need more people like you and Derek in the world, and more lovely communities like this, especially in this day and age... Everyone here is so friendly, and I'm honoured and thrilled to be a part of it. I've already told my whole family about Derek, and I'll certainly pass on the videos. Also, I really love the way Derek played "Ain't no Sunshine" in ragtime style on 60 minutes and would love to hear it again sometime! but make no mistake, it's not like I'm requesting a repeat of just that style specifically, or anything. Ragtime is always cool and neat but of course he can jazz it up further and do whatever with it.
Thanks, Kelly and Derek, and stay awesome! <3 <3 <3

Hello Derek, I am listening from alberta canada 🇨🇦 I would love to here you play canada's national anthem in southern gospel piano style. My favorite gospel piano player is the late Anthony burger. Keep up the awesome playing, you are an inspiration

Any chance of him doing a retake of the John Coltrane version of this? Although I think this is a pretty excellent remodelling.

Coming from USA CT. would Derek enjoy a sad version of moonlight sonata?

Actually I'm a great fan of video game music and rock, so my suggestion is to explore Toby Fox' and "Cup Head" soundtracks and "classic rock" such as Queen and the Beatles.
