Domenico Cimarosa (17 December 1749, Aversa, Province of Caserta -- 11 January 1801, Venice) was an Italian opera composer of the Neapolitan school.

Work: Oreste, dramma per musica in two acts, first performance 13 August 1783, Teatro S. Carlo, Naples.

Con grande rispetto per Mozart ma Cimarosa ha fatto scuola!

The operas of Cimarosa were famous in his time. His reputation has
fallen since that time. Probably the operas of Mozart pushed them in the
shadow. We can here that the music and the orchestration were of good
quality - but do not equal of course that of Mozart. Nevertheless, it
would be interesting to give a second life to some of them from time to
time.
