This might be very harsh but its very true that's most people only want to do opensource in India because of jobs and swags. But nobody wants to know the ground reality 😅😅

This is the mature take on the situation. Because it reflects acceptance, and not blindly fighting anyone who critisizes us. This is a common problem that I see in India.

Hi, Hitesh i was following your course for backend for exress . I learned a lot by coding along with your tutorial. And then i went ahead and deployed with server less functions. So i just wanted to say there are still a lot of people who are working silent and building roads for future. Our journey may not have a good beginning but its definitely going to be a good one.

Harkirat discouraged his community to not make useless contributions. Actually walked through the codebase and showed what being useful to organization is. The problem is the scarcity in our community and lack of ethics.

I AM AN INDIAN AND YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. I did the same thing. I was building my own product where i used one open source library. I felt a need to have some features in library and then started to contribute.
I have also started live coding streams where I work on developing different things live. Currently I have started with same open source project i am talking about. Afterwards I am planning to develop video streaming backends and much more.

Let me tell you the problem with Indian software engineering scene

1. Aspirants with 400+ leetcode question solver tag under their name, who are absolute zero when it comes to creativity and projects.

2. Aspirants who do all kinds of projects they find on the internet. Their projects have a 5 second load time, with each and every node plugin you can imagine. They Have no knowledge of how these technologies are built, no knowledge of language internals.

3. Ones that learn all kinds of front end technology that are trendy with no sense of direction.

4. Institutes like scaler, coding ninja. Which charge laksha laksha for the mediocrity they strive for.

5. Service based companies.

Etc etc...

Mediocrity is the root of all problems.

I agree. While doing freelancing I have seen on so many freelancing platforms where clients don't want to hire anyone from India. We are getting a bad reputation for providing bad quality of work. Now we are getting a bad name in the open-source community and this needs to stop.

Totally agreed🙌. It takes time to understand a code base and contribute. People contribute without even trying to understand the codebase. Understanding the codebase is the first step in open source, not contributing or raising issues or PR

Thankfully I had this feeling ki tutorials aren't enough. I have to try building something myself regardless of errors I would produce in the initial stage. But that's how we learn.

A huge thanks for addressing this issue❤
People should contribute to OSS to give back to the community
