Canadian here. A friend of mine bought a 1971 Dodge Coronet ex-police interceptor car from the RCMP. It had a 440 with a big 4-barrel carb. Luckily, it was an "unmarked" car, so it had a normal dark blue paint job. It had a 160 mph speedometer and he could bury the needle. The only car we knew of that could compete with it at high speed was our other friend's Dad's Mercedes 6.9.

The thing about sleepers used to be that you had to tune them yourself, simply purchasing an unassuming looking sport variant of a german car doesn't make it a sleeper. A 800hp standard looking toyota cambry is a sleeper. A 450Hp Smart car is a sleeper, those twin-turbo hayabusa powered piaggio trikes are sleepers. Any audi s or rs, any hellcat, demon, any amg, bmwM, fiat abarth, nismo, gti, black not a sleeper.

I own a 98 Buick Regal GS and a 92 Taurus SHO both of which are sleepers.

Audi S8 and E60 M5 used to be the sleeper of 2010s but with uninformed laymen they still classify these two as above average cars with capable performance cause "Continental". Now times have changed try Bobba motoring a Golf MK2 eating Porsche 911 on Autobahns. Still a good video.
