For those who love cars, the 1990s were a golden age, with plenty of innovative vehicles and a wide variety of vehicles on the streets. A distinct type of vehicle subtly established its domain among the gaudy sports cars and bulky SUVs: sleeper cars. These modest creatures, who frequently passed for regular sedans or coupes, were the ultimate underdogs of their era because of the unexpected power and speed these beasts possessed.

Welcome to Finest Vehicles! On this channel you will find videos about the newest cars, the best cars, the most expensive cars, the fastest cars and much more!

In this video the following vehicles are shown:

- Ford Taurus SHO
- Audi RS2 Avant
- GMC Typhoon
- Ford F-150 SVT Lightning
- Lotus Carlton
- Mercury Cougar XR7
- Ford Thunderbird SC
- Oldsmobile Achieva SCX
- Dodge Spirit R/T
- Mercedes-Benz E500

Best part is when the ai voice goes with an insane pronunciation of SHO despite getting it right twice before 1:10

Missed the 90s by a few years, but the Dodge Omni GLH was a true sleeper.

The Spirit RT is misunderstood by a lot by people. Chrysler in the 80’s and early 90’s made a million turbo cars using the 2.2 and 2.5 engine. These were Omni’s, shadows, Lebarons, New Yorker’s, minivans, Spirit/Acclaim, etc.

The RT was a different animal as it wasn’t just the 2.2 turbo found in most of those vehicles, but a 16 valve Lotus head that produced 224 hp, which sounds not that impressive now, made the Spirit RT the fastest 4 door production car in the world. The same engine was used in the 92/93 Dodge Daytona Iroc RT. These vehicles are legitimately rare, with only a few thousand produced in total. Between myself and my nephew we’ve owned 8 Spirit RT’s and have rebuilt the engines etc. in fact, I have a video on my channel showing the build of an RT engine for those interested in the differences

Compared to the 80's, every 90's car was a supercar. In the 80's, 0-60 was a "yes or no" question.

Great video, thank you for sharing! Seeing that SHO. I get sick looking at those years, I became an expert changing transmissions because of those tauruses.

Out of these cars I’d take the E 500, then the Lincoln as a distant second. But the Lightning was was pretty cool too.

Had to show the worst SHO of them all?

As soon as I saw that Spirit R/T in the thumbnail, I clicked, a gentleman in my hometown had a built one that ran 11s in the quarter(not to impressive these days, but plenty impressive in 1996), he used to street race it on the weekends and regularly gapped 5.0 Mustangs, C5 Vettes, F-Bodies, etc.

Owned an eagle talon tsi in high school and wasn’t a car in school at the time who could beat me. I did a lot to it but even stock that thing was insane for the time.

glad to see someone do a video with the Spirit R/Ts. Owned 2 of them back on the mid-late 90s. FUN car. Total sleeper. Astonishing numbers for “performance cars of that year” 1991. In the M5 realm. It handled more like a toaster on steroids but so fast, so much torque steer and personally, always loved the look!,

Got a nice hiddem gem for your next list that most don't know about. Rare 92-94 nissan maxima SE with the rare dohc VE30DE motor. Mated to 5spd limited slip diff, good for 145mph+.. had stronger top end than many of the newer maximas i raced including cars with much more hp. That motor was only ever used in the car for 2 years and was the prototype for the upcoming VQ engine but actually had valve timing much like the VG30DE in the Z car of that time. Was a direct competitor to the SHO of the time. They are very hard to find now especially with the 5spd manual.

@2:28 I love how crammed in there that 5 cylinder engine is… Audi really had to work to make that powerplant fit.

A lot of quick cars in those days. I had (still have) an 88XJ and it was fun to drive and fairly quick for it was. Hair under 3000lbs and 185HP/250TQ, base model 2dr 5spd. You could lay rubber all the way through 2nd. The best I got out of it was a high 14 on the street. At the track I don't know but usually the street is half second or so slower. They could have so easily came with a turbo, factory motor can easily handle 14psi of boost.
