Just picked up a F earth tone edition from a stationary store. Opening and closing feels perfect and clicking it on and off is really satisfying.

I've recently rediscovered Uni One refills as drawing pens. The black ink is uniquely dark, even more so than my art pens, and it really isn't wet ink at all, it doesn't have feather or bleed issues. The frequent skipping is a major downside and initially made me dismiss it, but my return to it came from evaluating control, and among ball pens, there aren't many that produce as controlled a line. If the paper is decently heavy and smooth, the skipping is tolerable. It's a pretty dainty refill as those things go. As well, a common issue when drawing with refills aiming for smooth ink flow is that when repeatedly going over a line, the pen loses its friction as the contact becomes ink-on-ink, making it feel soapy and creating a lot of overshoot. This was a huge issue with the original Signo 207, and is much better in both the One and the 207+. The 207+ is my current all-round favorite refill - it's very skip-resistant and makes some pretty consistently juicy lines - but the One has an added role for details and highlights.

The stickers actually say that the refills are UMR-038S and UMR-05S. I guess the UMN is the pen model number instead, so maybe they updated the ink formulation for the entire One lineup (it’s clearly darker now)? I really don’t like how skippy the original One refill is, although I love how the ink doesn’t bleed through even the crappiest paper

I think the most interesting change with the One F is that the body can’t fit Jetstream refills, unlike its predecessor. I’ve never used the One but I did buy the One F Yellow recently and tried inserting the refill from my Jetstream and it didn’t fit at all.

1:18 I thought the Sarasa had pigmented ink... the ones I own (Sarasa Grand and vintage colors) are definitely waterproof.

I got a pack from Staples, the 0.7 with 4 black and 3 blue, and so far the few that I have used do skip quite often, which is a shame because the actual writing is great when they don't skip! I did switch one to an energel refill which fits and I love it because I really like the look and feel of the barrel. I am going to try with the Sarasa Dry refill as well, which writes great so I think that will be another good hack.

Uniball One “F” means (faded color series) .. refers to the body.. 🙂

An elephant in the room is the cartridge size. It uses Chinese style refills, which are narrower in diameter than traditional Uni Signo cartridges, which in turn are generally interchangeable with Jetstreams, Pentel LRs, Paper mates, and Zebras. Thus, quite unfortunately, it makes this plastic pen much less appealing.

I'm really not a fan of the Uniball One which is a shame because I love the Uni Signo its literally my favorite line of pens. I hope uniball doesn't abandon the signo in favor of this. Plus the Signo ink is "Uni super ink" it was already chemical, water, and fade resistant and in my opinion MUCH smoother and more consistent than the weird gummy ink in the uniball one. Honestly, maybe I just got a couple of bad ones (I don't think getting 5 bad pens is really a good sign anyway) but everyone seems to like them, I do not find them smooth at all
