This is the first time I saw her actually communicate nicely and not just getting mad.

Its his daughter he can talk how he wants around her. Mandy could bring this up as the mother buy no one else.

As a Texan who lost her accent as she grew up, the baby would have better job opportunities around here if she keeps it, trust me. My only hope is wearing my Aggie ring to interviews and crossing my fingers! 😂

I think both have a point. Slangs and accents are a big part of a person but for future opportunities it is good to know how to speak formally

Well then by that logic Missy and Sheldon should sound like their parents

I get what she's saying, but I had a teacher talking exactly like him. We all loved it even when English was not even our first language, and teachers need to articulate clearly, so yeah, she doesn't "need" to talk a certain way.

Linguistically there isn't anything better or proper about the way she is expressing herself. It won't matter how you say something if the thought you're trying to express is muddled

It is entirely possible for a child to grow up understanding two dialects and using them interchangeably. It usually happens when they have two different examples at home, just like this. If Georgie carried on speaking like he normally does, Ceecee would probably grow up to do what a lot of minority groups in the US refer to as code switching. She would understand when to pull out the formal English. What Mandy’s mom fails to see here is that even though speaking properly might help Ceecee gain professional opportunities, it may actually have a negative impact socially. As a child growing up in a rural southern area, Ceecee would likely have an easier time making friends if she talked like Georgie.

As a southerner, my brain auto translates what hes saying, so it just sounds like shes saying the same thing

This was a common view point back then. Fortunately we've come a long way in the speech world of differentiating between language disorder and a dialectal difference

Knowing the proper way to speak for future opportunities is true. But we can treat it like a 2nd language. Teach her the proper way for school to make reading and writing easier. Then she can have her own "family language" later.
