Looking at the number of people with similar problem looking for answer, here is the answer.
This sounds like a faulty starter motor, but to confirm that do this simple test: Locate the 3 wire plug near the battery positive terminal, one of the wires is purple and grey. this wire goes directly to the starter solenoid, which means if you touch this wire to the battery positive the stater should crank, if it doesn't crank fit a new starter motor.

I had the same problem with my A - Class. Most likely, the starter is not broken, but you probably have a factory battery that is not empty, but gives the so-called "false current" to the computer. When starting the car, there is a sound of short knocks and the system often starts to mess up. TRY SIMPLY REPLACING YOUR BATTERY, it worked for me and I've never had any problems again!!!

Al parecer Joanna amiga y amigos este modelo tiene este problem entre otros, y es la combinacion de Batery + flujo de aire + motor de arranque + bomba/filtro de combustible. Claro, si lo empujan arranca pero no es recomendable. Un saludo.

Hello Joanna its the - starter motor- y have the same problem .its cost me 300 pound total to fix it . ^^ and if you want to start
the car, you have to push it but not recommandet. ^^ .

Its the starter motor, the motors themselves are pretty cheap however its the labor thats gonna bite ;)

First: low battery
Second: wait the injection e hear the gas pump working
Third: cold start and low level of gas(two difficult situations)
