All dogs especially stray dogs love to chase anything that moves. And Cars or bikes are their favorite moving objects as they're noisy, fast-moving, and emit lights unlike trees and electric poles. We all must have seen the stray dogs chasing and barking at the passing by cars, a person riding a cycle, a runner, or even the newspaperman.
Not only stray dogs, it is a big problem with pet dogs also.
Car chasing, lunging, and barking are totally natural behavior of dogs but if not corrected early, it can turn out to be a very serious problem, more serious than you ever realize. Yes, for your pet dog too. If your dog barks and tries to pull on the leash on his walk in an attempt to chase the fast-moving cars, then definitely you need to correct this behavior. Chasing habits don’t only put your dog at risk of getting hit by a car but also the car’s driver, runner, or any other road user at risk too.

So we’ve gathered information on the reasons behind the dog’s car chasing and barking behavior. And we've also shared some tricks and training tips that you can use to correct this barking and chasing behavior of your pet dog at home.

BROOO!! something people don't realize... car breaking makes a squeaking noise in sound frequency ranges outside of human hearing... but DOGS can hear it and they hate it. (This happens with ceramic break pads. not metallic pads or organic pads ) Notice dogs attack the front tires and not the car

I'm an old cyclist and have been chased by dogs all my life. What can I use from being attacked or mauled? Do dog whistles work?

Thank you for this, many of my pets have died by getting ran over by careless people. I miss them all so much, I just told one of my dogs I want them to stop chasing cars because I don’t want to lose another family member. Im the youngest in my family and I’m gonna have to watch my whole family die one by one, I’ll be the only one left. It’s sad. I love my family so much and don’t want to lose more family, I have already lost my grandma recently and I don’t want to loose my old dog Louie.🩷
Cherish your family while you can, we don’t like forever.

I have a female stray dog in my neighborhood. I have her under my watch but she is barking at bikes and trucks and chasing them since last August. I have consulted with a canine trainer and he told me that I need to teach her basic commands and then put her on a leash. Any time she goes for a truck or a bike I must tell her NO and reward her accordingly.
But the dog is a free roamer so I had to remove the leash and instead of a leash, I had to command her NO or grabb the back of her neck ( after she barked at bikes or chased them) and tell her No. If she did it well then reward was ready. But the progress is too slow. I have her under my training for almost two weeks. She is great at obeying basic commands but still she is food motivated yet she is not good at listening NO without leash.

Now I need guidance.
First, Since people here consider dogs as religiously unclean creatures and her life was threaten once by a biker, do you have any booster techniques for me specially? The dog is spayed for 6 months and she is a year and a half approximately.

Second, am I doing the right thing by removing the leash and just commanding her No or grabbing back of her neck according to my trainer instruction? Because I see little progress with this technique however when she was on leash she never chased a bike or truck and she was OK. She does this when she is not on leash.

Plz help me with this kid because my sister and I are the only ones who are helping her and we are a little bit frustrated and worried about her safety.

Thank you guys

In my case, I got my dog, we live in a private island, and we use golf cars to move around, and he always chase us, put in front on our way, specially when is a double path and he doesn’t know which way we are going. Is so intense that he was biting the tires on movimient! His problem, he plays with cars only, he doesn’t like balls, or ropes… it’s a bit scary dog becouse old owner was bitten him…

Hello, if I said I was very depressed over my furry babies behavior, it would be an understatement!
I have come to terms that every effort I've tried isn't efficient, Lucky Lee is 4, his 1 year old sister, is no help, she often even starts, they cross the street to chase neighbors, joggers, walkers, other dogs... I'm truly crying over this because I love my dogs.
I'm embarrassed, we've tried the shock collar for 4 years, we only use the shock when we feel their live is in danger, I've tried it on me to see if it was acceptable for them,
I thought it was uncomfortable but ok, we usually do the vibration warning, but the collar has to be tight for this to work, and, of course, I worry about collapse trachea, and frankly, I think it's a little on the barbarian side,
and I don't like it, my husband and I have a conflict of interest on this matter, we used to take a Lucky to a camp bow wow, to hang out with the dogs he was fine, but didn't seem super happy there, but we could watch him on cameras and his behavior was very acceptable, however, my husband thought he didn't like the place and I gave in,
he's a very good boy, super intelligent, but very temperamental and basically does what he wants in this house. My mom lives with us and truly treats him like a grandma, and I feel like my hands are tied.
I recently got a rope and I'm going to start letting him be in the 30' rope in our big yard, because I can't trust him or his sister Millie to not chase people and often in their own yard doing their yardwork and lucky can look scary. He's mastiff mix with boxer, possibly pitbull too, He was a rescue of one month old and my country of Brazil, he was very abused, and almost died therefore gets babied, I really need help with this. I don't care if I have to pay somebody I just need a solution. I'm sorry for crying a river. I'm sure everybody else has problems too but today was really bad. He chased a jogger and he can look scary. I don't necessarily think he would bite but now I'm not so sure and he hates our neighbor and the guy is so nice, he doesn't like the guys dog he doesn't listen. When I call him I bring squeaky toys and treats, to make a noise to distract him. It will work for seconds then he's right back at it!
I just don't know what to do. It has caused me a lot of tears. Please help! 🙏🏽
