Fabulous band, all accomplished musicians, especially Lew Soloff. These guys broke a mould, barriers and got many younger people into jazz Mr Fielder was also superb on bass.

Their first 4 albums are wonderful, the second one is a pure masterpiece...up there with the best Chicago records if not even better...and their drummer was astonishing.

Bobby Columby on drums. He and Danny Seraphine (Chicago) were 2 drummers who helped me realize how important it is to merge jazz music and rock music.

Man look here, I'm a black man who loves music and I can truly say that this group got screwed tremendously. Their musicianship, showmanship, vocal, and sound unmatched. 😢 It's a shame how they were blackballed from the music industry for being outspoken.

From CUBA.
Just one word to identify something that doesn't exist anymore at that level MUSIC.
What capacity of creation. A mix of the simple and the complex.
Blood Sweat and Tears and All Kooper, something unrepeatable.

Gone was the concept of a 4 player rock or pop group when these guys introduced a jazz element into popular music, leading the way for groups like Chicago. "Smiling Phases" was an LP cut from an album that had three top 5 singles, sold millions of units, and won the Grammy for Album Of The Year. Hearing this performance, you can understand why the album was a giant.

Spectacular!

On a humorous note, it looks like David Clayton Thomas pre-saged Ed Grimley.

In 1972 I saw them in concert in Abilene Texas. Besides liking the music what stood out to this day is David Clayton Thomas's voice. He was so loud you could hear him above the sound system. I was 5 rows back and I couldn't believe the power in his voice.

I met trumpeter Phil Driscoll a few years ago. He respected his bandmates for their sheer raw talent. He still amazes me.
