For people who are confused Japanese has a counter system for counting objects. This means that depending on the type of object you are counting, you use different counters. hiki(small animals) tou(large animals) wa(birds). This is a bit weird coming from English but we do use our own counters as well, like went we say “pieces of candy”(small objects) or “sheets of paper”(flat objects)
