Finally, the great test to vegetables and fruit meeting in a sandwich! I have to admit, I could see all savory elements working on their own but with an apple as a monkeywrench, I am a bit skeptical. Still we’re gonna try the Vegetable and Apple Sandwich from 1941’s “500 Tasty Sandwiches" and see what’s what.

I’d also add some walnuts… maybe some craisins………

LOL you didn't look too enthusiastic about a vegetarian sandwich Barry. In the end, many are not so bad! I would have liked a bit of cheese - maybe a bit of cheddar and maybe just maybe a few minced walnuts? I am a pescatarian by the way, so most of my sandwiches are veg with the odd fish now and again. Even so, I love watching your channel and thoroughly enjoy the variety of ingredients that go into these bits of (mostly) tasty history.

Just wanted to say thankyou for your content from a History teacher in Australia who hates cooking 😂 you've made me start making these sandwiches (even the "interesting flavour" ones). Love your work!

What a pleasant surprise. One thing I am enjoying is watching your subscriber count going up every day. Starting to move fairly quickly.

Honestly, I feel like this combination of fruit and veg would actually work far better in a soup. You could fry all of it up - in order of cooking time - in some oil or ghee or maybe start with some fatty pork then fry them in drippings, add some chicken/veg bouillon, creole or curry seasoning, and a few quarts of water and let it simmer over low heat until everything's tender.

Egg noodles or crunchy bread would also probably be pretty good with it, or maybe adding a thickener (cream of chicken canned soup in place of the bouillon, say) and serving it over rice. Just one woman's opinion, anyway.

Personally, I'm interested in the other 499 recipes from that book. Feel free to share more, I'll certainly watch

Hey I was on time today. Apple and cabbage does seem to go well together but I've never tried it on a sandwich.
