"Kolik jazyků umíš, tolikrát jsi člověkem." - Czech proverb.

Literal translation: "The number of languages you speak is the number of times that youre a human."

Loose translation: "The more languages you speak, the more of a person you are / the more personality you have."

I used to think it simply means that speaking more languages makes you a better person, but now i think its also about the phenomenon of having something of a sub-personality for each language. I do think and feel a little different when speaking English than i do when speaking Czech.

I love Steve's philosophy of embracing mistakes. Such a critical concept that holds many of us back at times....including me!

Both my grandparents had alzheimer's so my siblings and I have done some research on how to prevent it. Continuous learning seems to be the best way. Makes sense that learning a new language would help to prevent (or at least delay it).

I am a native Russian speaker. He definitely has a significant accent, but he speaks with soul, so it compensates and connects :)

His Mandarin Chinese is legit! I was surprised how good it was considering he said it’s his 4th best language.

Pimsleur is a language learned app that took me from not knowing a word in Spanish to now speaking fluently in 2 years. The best language app I know of

I found Lingq back in 2010. I spent some time learning a variety of languages at a basic level. It got to a point where I was able to show off a bit in interviews. The system is legit. It’s super simple, but you’ve got to make the time.

I speak 4 languages and am now learning 5th one and he absolutely nails it in terms of interest you need to have in order to learn.

Everything he's saying is true. Every language I have learned is through reading and listening and speaking. I skip the grammar portion and then go back to it after I have already learned enough to conversate. And what i have noticed is you even without learning grammar through books, you pick up on it through the pattern of speaking. So get out there and expose yourself to languages.

I'm a 23y who speak 5 languages but 3 of them are sort of my native languages ( I've come to Montreal, Canada alone at 17 )
Always impressed with people that take the effort and time to learn a language, nothing but respect.

As mr Steve said it opens many opportunities in life especially in the business world, negotiating with a person using his native language is nothing like a commun language especially if you have good communication skills and knowledge of the language/culture

I still want to learn Spanish/Mandarin but I'm just busy with learning finance and making a living... On my freakin own haha only using the internet and practicing with people ( virtual or the real world )

It's also very satisfying especially for immigrants to hear someone that speak their language, and very satisfying to talk to people in their native language and see their reaction hahaa always a great moment/connection
Keep it up Pat you're doing great.

This man is a real beast, communicating in 20 languages is VERY uncommun.

He also made some great points in this interview

I just found out that he have a Youtube channel I'll start watching his content he's a very interesting person
