I'm 59 and disabled and I have been in this apartment since 2009, but a fire is right by I'm staying as long as possible for most events. I refill glass bottles and jars with tap water and most of those are in the open. A maintenance man asked about it and I replied that we can only live three days without water and too many communities have problems and I feel better having the water that I can filter. I have bottles hidden behind photo frames, stacks of books. Theee cup mylar bags with tap water, sealed and taped over lapping to pieces of cardboard and slid under furniture. Under my couch holds seven gallons, and I could do more. I have some under the entertainment center. I line store bought bottles under clothes in drawers.

I have been cutting old clothes and cloth into 6*6"and 8*8" squares and put them in gallon size freezer bags. Flattened and thrown under my bed wherever they hit in-between preps. I can make a small amount of bleach sanitizing solution and add to the bag for cleaning, Castile soap and water for human wipes. Old socks saved and work for emergency wet toilet wipes.

Stacks of tuna behind the back couch legs to keep it off the wall and the end tables hide them.

This is the first video I’ve seen talking about keeping things to do while having to stay home, keeping yourself and kids (if any) occupied in a disaster will keep tension down, we keep puzzles/books/educational books/blank pads and colouring pencils on hand at all times for this reason! You’re the first person I’ve seen talk about this, thank you!

Your point about having a strong mind is so underrated. Without emotional regulation, safety is compromised. Pay attention to how your associates react in a negative or emergent situation.

The cabin fever thing is too real. Every time we had a hurricane growing up, my mother would frantically clean to keep busy. There were 2 of us kids and dad busy making messes. I'm certain she got closer to strangling us than we ever knew. Lol

I've thanked you in the past for your thoughtful and genuine advice.... Allow me to say thank you once again for your stellar, down to earth words of wisdom... You put forth no pretenses in what you offer, that to me speaks volumes about you.

Folks like you make dealing with the uncertainty and turmoil that we all now face on a daily basis, easier to navigate. I 'm a retired US Army Infantry soldier of twenty plus years service to our country, currently in my late sixties...

With that said, I have certain skills, but I am not up to speed on the current ways to prepare for our shared future... Your videos fill that gap for me, thank you for the effort you put forward ... It's definitively on time and appreciated!

Thank you 🙏

Thanks JR, i always enjoy your videos. I've mentioned it before, but i will say it again, SwingAway manual can openers are the most durable brand i have found. Do not gamble by only having a farberware or other nice looking off brand. Military can openers are great, but you need hand & wrist strength to use them. Children & elderly family members may not be able to make them work when needed. I have small hands & thin wrists- they're a no-go for me. One of my SwingAways is 20+ years old, another is from the 80's & still works fine. Be safe, not sorry, get at least 2. I picked up a couple extra for trade if....🍀🇺🇲🖖🙏

A great way to learn what you might need for a grid down scenario is to pack up the family and go camping. You’ll quickly learn what items/tools make life easier. Of course this is just a starting point

If your bugging in. Know your area. Get out there get exercise while gaining valuable Intel. Expand your area, get map. Pin point logistical concerns and points of interest. Learn the people. Be gray and pray.

Elastic Theraband is great to use in lieu of barbells and weights, great for quick tourniquets and various other uses.
