The real ugly truth about hedgehogs are they don't run nearly as fast as video games make them out to be!

TOTALLY TOTALLY AGREE!
I have recently rescued two hogs, my male a month ago, he was advertised as 'very friendly' so I really wanted to buy him, when I got there it was very clear he was not friendly at all, I asked the girl to pick him up, her reply was 'ive never held him' so her dad picked him up in a blanket and handed him to me, as soon as he got near me the smell hit me, it was horrible, nothing like I'd ever smelt before, he was very stressed out, breathing very heavy, kicking and hissing, he was also very skinny, I didn't want to buy him because I was hoping to buy a friendly hedgehog but I knew if I didn't buy him he would be left there still being neglected because nobody would want to buy an 'aggressive' hog so he'd have probably died within a week or two so I brought him. When I got him home I found his nails were extremely long and when I cleaned out his cage they gave me with him, they'd put a blanket on the bottom, I lifted that to find the whole of the bottom covered in poop that was that old it was white and fluffy so it was very clean that hadn't cleaned him out. he's now very chunky and a very happy chappy that love to come out and say hello after loads of hard work and time :)
my female I rescued a week ago, she was also another hog I was expecting to buy healthy and happy but nope, she was also neglected, her nails were that long they were cutting into her feet, she was also very skinny, she has a bald patch of quills missing on her back end, I've found out she's not only blind but also deaf too, she has really bad skin and had mould in her quills where she had been anointing and not been bathed. she is now a happy healthy hog that also loves to come out and say hello :)
I HATE people that buy animals then make up excuses like they don't have time, how on earth do you not have time for a hedgehog? THEY SLEEP ALL DAY!
I've never owned a hedgehog until I rescued my male a month ago, I've learnt a lot from YouTuber's such as yourself who put up information on hedgehogs, now mine are very happy and well looks after 😊

2:00 True if you love a pet it will feel your affection. Don't just get one for views.

You have provided a serious public service announcement. You obviously love animals of all sorts and as a caution your reminder to learn everything about the animal you are interested in having in your home otherwise one could become an uncaring animal owner. Bravo to you for the info and your love of animals. They will always be safe and loved in your care.

Many hedgehogs are not very social at first, but you have to work with them and handle them every day, and, guess what, will learn to love you and will want to socialize with you (but not many other people).

3 yrs ago my I went to friends house. She had a grumpy African pygmy hedgehog she said that she grew bored of her and asked if I wanted it. I didnt have hedgehogs at that time but I knew how to care for one. So I took her home. After 2 yrs of hand El int and getting used to, she has finaly became the hedgehog I know we she would have became. Its fun to see your hedgehog go from cruel to cute but not in the case for many.she is still living to this day happy and healthy

I'm researching hedgehogs! There are wild ones around here and they always fascinated me as a kid and i never lost that fascination. I love so many animals. I'll be waiting till a hedgehog shows up on the animal protection adopt pages. I'm moving to my partner and I's first home in 2017 and we intend to adopt a lot of thrown away animals looking for forever homes :3 I can't wait.

My ex girlfriend had one of these little guys. Never took care of it. I ended up taking care of it, because I couldn't stand how she didn't take care of it.

You are right, they do shit a lot. Have to clean their cage once a day, some times twice.

A hedgehog should make a video like “Why my female is so boring” saying: “She never wants to play with me, she only takes pics of me, I mean I love her and all but.... I’m playful I don’t want to sit and read with her!” 😂😂😂 I feel like it would be funny

Excellent video with good advice! I can't stand it when people use their animals of any kind, just for pictures, videos, or views.

Fact of life; living creatures DO POOP!! It may come as a surprise but it happens.

Here’s how I have grown my hedgehog:
-clean his cage and him every morning (30 minutes)
-he sleeps in my bed while I’m at work
-when I get home I hold and cuddle with him for a couple hours because other wise he becomes solitary from humans and basically becomes wild
-put him to bed and feed him... feed them not only cat food (not hedgehog food because it is full of fat) but also some meat or eggs here and there to excite him... but don’t feed them anything dangerous for them

It’s a lot of work for the first month or two but then you get used to it and it’s all worth it.

However if you can’t AT THE LEAST commit to holding your hedgehog in or out of your shirt or in your lap for an hour a day, then a hedgehog isn’t right for you.

If you can’t clean them and their cage properly everyday then a hedgehog isn’t right for you.

If you are going to keep them in their cage all day except for 30 minutes out of the day, A HEDGEHOG IS NOT FOR YOU!

These guys are cuddlers and just the best if you know how to properly care for them. But they are sensitive animals and need a lot of attention and if you can’t give that, you’re only hurting yourself and completely ruining their lives.
