After changing the led blink on time to 3 seconds, it didn't work. I am a newbie. Eventually I found that you never show you have to recompile the program. Now it works.

imho, unless you are deploying a very small mcu, no matter how "simple" (at first...) your app might be, always use an RTos e.g. FreeRTOS. Build an empty universal RTOS template app. to be used as a base for almost any kind of app you might create. Note that e.g. for the ESP32 series, RTOS is already built-in. The initial hurdle is a bit steeper, but hey, you will thank yourself later.
