It reminds me of when James Evans Sr was killed off on Good Times. He was killed in a car accident while preparing to send for his family. Linda was killed in a helicopter crash during a medevac. The only difference is that John Amos was fired from that show. Amy Carlson decided not to renew her contract with Blue Bloods.

She left by her choice. She gave a short notice. That was inconsiderate to the others but especially the writers who had to scramble to create a story line. I don't miss her. She had a great job, a great storyline and fans. Her loss totally.
