κυπρογενῆ Κυθέρειαν ἀείσομαι, ἥτε βροτοῖσι

χαῖρε, θεά, Σαλαμῖνος ἐυκτιμένης μεδέουσα 5

εἰναλίης τε Κύπρου: δὸς δ' ἱμερόεσσαν ἀοιδήν.
αὐτὰρ ἐγὼ καὶ σεῖο καὶ ἄλλης μνήσομ' ἀοιδῆς.

Of Cyprus-born Cytherea I sing, she who to men
honeyed gifts gives; upon her lovely face
she ever smiles, and a lovely bloom runs upon it.
Hail, goddess, ruler of well-cultivated Salamis
and of all Cyprus; give to me a beautiful song.
For I will take heed both for you and for another song.
