"1998 Honda Civic" :') these guys at ABC news REALLY do not know their cars, first calling a Challenger a Charger, now calling an Accord a Civic ...

It's funny how they make 200k miles seem like such a big deal.

My car just hit 200, 000 miles and it’s probably got another 200, 000 left in it. I never miss an oil change. I take really good care of it.

People only want to buy new cars to inflate their ego's

Most people just want the newest thing. So it's such a big deal when they see a car with high miles. As long as you maintain a car it'll last long.

My 89 toyota pickup got 450K miles. The key is maintenance like the video says but also driving it easy and not living in the rust belt.

All you gotta do is buy a Toyota done!

ABC News missed a few:
-Don't worry about what other people think of you. You will never ever see the people next to you at traffic lights ever again. That goes for the person laughing at your 1985 Escort and the person impressed with your brand new BMW.
-Don't worry about keeping up with the Joneses. They're broke.
-When it does come time to replace your car, ALWAYS buy used. Let somebody else take the ass kicking on the depreciation.

People here in LA buy New cars not because they need one but because they just want the latest model.

I have a 1996 Honda Accord with 314, 000 miles and it still runs great.

Agreed, I've had my Challenger for 9.5 years and have 158, 500 on it.
I'm keeping mine till it dies as I have lifetime warranty

I drive a 91 Nissan with 230, 000 miles . Plenty of pickup, faster than my Mustang. I replaced the clutch at 210000 . Only other work, pan oil and a power steering fluid leak. That's about it been in the family since 91 and going strong.

Yeah... Just change the fluids on time... Get small issues fixed asap before they escalate to bigger mechanical problems. Use rubber floor mats to keep the original carpet clean so it doesn't smell bad or make it difficult to clean. Get your car washed and waxed at least once every week. I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan, just turned 100, 000 miles, however I live in a large city with heavy traffic so I probably have another 100, 000 miles just in idling hours. Also, make sure you find an honest and decent mechanic who has a good customer rating... That's the most important part...

i agree 100%. Buying a good used car with low miles and then caring properly for that car will literally save you thousands of dollars! i bought a 2013 tundra with 200k miles for $4, 000 dollars from a friend who i trusted. i have now added 50k miles to it and she still runs great. have had zero issues. My biggest tip is buying Japanese over domestic and also trying to buy from a friend or relative if at all possible. dont go over 5k on your oil changes and you should be good!

Biggest single thing by far: check the oil periodically and change it on a regular scheduled basis.
The engine will outlast the car.

200, 000 miles is just broken in on my 1999 Chevy Silverado. The money you save on payments, put some back into your vehicles maintenance. Put the extra money towards the principle payment of your home or invest it for retirement or save for a 20% down payment on a home. You'll be much happier than bleeding your budget out to a car payment!

It's not a tip for saving money if it involves not spending any in the first place.

They didn't save thousands of dollars, they just did not spend thousands on something they didn't need!!! Smart.
