180 Million Year Old Ichthyosaur Fossil ✨

This incredible specimen is one of few complete, three dimensional Ichthyosaur fossils ever found. This particular fossil was discovered in Eastern France and is exceptionally prepared. It is a part of the Granada Gallery collection. ❤️

A few other facts about Ichthyosaurs:
•Ranged in size from 2-85 feet long
•Very successful in survival, existed over 100 million years
•Only 15 three dimensional specimens like this ever found, the rest are flattened
•The name Ichthyosaur translates to “Fish Lizard” in Greek
•Some of the largest eyes ever recorded, up to 10” across that helped them see in the deep, dark ocean
•They breathed air
•Gave birth to live young, did not lay eggs
