Hurricane Beryl moves towards Jamaica | BBC News

A deadly hurricane which has been tearing through the Caribbean is intensifying as it moves towards Jamaica.

Hurricane Beryl is now a category five storm, meaning its winds and storm surges could prove catastrophic.

The Jamaican government has issued a hurricane warning and people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been urged to seek shelter.

A waiter in Kingston told Reuters news agency that the atmosphere in the Jamaican capital was calm.

The mayor of the resort town of Montego Bay warned residents not to take a "wait and see" attitude and urged them to be "prepared for anything

This is a monster storm. The storm track follows the eye movement but don’t think that the body of this beast isn’t extremely dangerous. This thing is going to slam into Jamaica

I've experienced a Hurricane on three occasions each time I visited with my daughter and her family living in Bermuda. Some parts of the 8sland suffered more damage than others. During the first Hurricane I experienced, there was a fatality when the high seas washed a car from the Causway near the Airport. While two subsequent Hurricanes I experienced caused damage and power was out for a day or two, there were no further deaths reported.

How can you report about the weather on the BBC and not know the temperature in degrees Celsius? And reporting on Caribbean weather where Celsius is used more than Fahrenheit, no less!
