i OBVIOUSLY dont blame people why not keeping maintain their projects; but im just saying that most of apps are like people working for 3-4 years on them at the best, and then they continue with their lives, these apps will never find new developers, and people who were using those apps may get upset and disappoint; which is actually a bigger issue in general; it's like "smaller" apps dont have much of point these days, and most importantly software, even these desktop apps should some how get financial sustainable ..or i may say BS!! but whatever!!

I'm hopeful that dash-to-panel gets picked up again, because zorin is using it extensively. But since they have ubuntu base, they are in no hurry to port it to gnome40... I wish we could pick it up, but Manjaro doesn't have the requisite devs to maintain it. If dash to panel is not getting fixed, I'll probably have to scrap gnome-layout-switcher, because too many layouts break with it. Default layout with dash-to-dock is good though and fits gnome40 nicely.

I just haven't been feeling Gnome 40, I don't know what it is but it's uncomfortable to use. I loved default gnome settings before but now it's all weird to me. The thing that pisses me off is that after moving to GTK4 they still didn't bother fixing the file picker and I hate the lazy implementation they keep using. I'm going to end up stuck with KDE and not because I like it better but because it has more useful things that help with the crap I need to do.

With Gnome 40 I no longer have any need for dash to dock functionality. Vanilla workflow is solid. Still wish the dash and icons were smaller though.

love your videos, and I'm not even very into anime, I just like the way you talk about things and how you make your critics, keep the good work ♥

Wait, where's the source for Dash to Panel being abandoned, though?

I don't know what I love more, the info or the comedy 😂♥♥
PD: F to pay respect for dash to panel, I used to use it when I wanted something "less gnome", so sad.

If so, let's create a desktop environment dominated by the dash to panel.

I agree, I really lament the fact there are lots of abandoned projects like my dear Tillix and Dash to panel

At the same time I am happy Dash to dock is becoming slowly compatible with GNOME 40

Gnome 40 is fine for me. I was skeptical about it and expected workspaces workflow to be broken, but it works fine. A bad thing I realized after installation of Fedora 34 is GPaste is not part of Gnome (Why?) and maintained by only one developer. Now he works on an update for Gnome 40 and gtk4, but it potentially could be abandoned like the extensions in this video someday.
Other extensions I need (Workspace indicator and Appindicator) are already in Fedora 34 repo and work.

All problems can be solved if people remove all GNOME Shell UI elements and only use plain overview with app picker, no panel, no dash, no workspace switcher and no search entry.
I know some people like to click and see icons in panel, ... but I know some people using their desktop like me after seeing my workflow video.
tbh, I never use panel, icons, workspace switcher, ... on my own workflow again.

Meanwhile I went to the effort of keeping my extensions list as small as humanly possible so I might actually be able to get new Shell versions without waiting months, so I'm down to 3 extensions (AppIndicator support, GSConnect, Pop_Shell), and still only 1 of them had a release ready for 40, GSConnect came out for 40 a few days after release, and Pop_Shell's 40 support is still in master. And then I hear about Dash to Dock also not being ready yet, and Dash to Panel being apparently abandoned, just sad.

I really do hope that the extensions rebooted initiative actually results in something tangible instead of just platitudes, especially since it's usually the answer every time anyone asks GNOME to add basically anything.

Tilix isnt abandoned. Version 1.9.4 Released: 2021-02-10. Why did you say that?

2021, the year of reinventing basic workspace navigation and still missing (messing (up) ?) some.

They changed everything and didn't give us a tool to change the things we want, that's terrible, I don't want to install a lot of unoptimized extensions.

Why is gnome > kde?
Cause dash to panel/dock + arc menu + other stuff.

Also, goddammit gnome, make theming in-built.
