I went from big Agnes copper spur ul2 bikepack to this. About 5000 miles ago I should have bought a zpacks shelter. I used to think they were lame and only good for being light. I thought the gram counters were just being weak hikers.
I move like lightning now, and didn't compromise in durability or living space which I thought would be dramatically different than freestanding tents I am used to.

Thank you Zpacks peeps for blessing my base weight!

This one is looking SOO good! This corrects every issue I saw with the Plexamid EXCEPT the mesh doors. The rainbow style doors causes the doors to fall to the floor which gives potential for snags when getting in and out. I would love to see D-shaped or -T shapes doors that could be tucked out of the way!

It's an Altaplex mini - for regular size peps (6 foot or less) for use with a regular size trekking pole (extended about to 52" - which most trekking poles can do) & no roof structure (Plexamid) to have to deal with when packing it up. Nooicee Zpacks... This might be close to the perfect UL tent. Now just bring back Line Loc 3's to this tent and it will BE the perfect tent :| Blue Boy

Again Thank you for this tent. I'm around 6'10" Tall. And I have spare room at the head and foot. Plenty of space on the side. I love the fact that you have coated the zippers. My duplex didn't have coated zippers yet I wish to have them coated. I'm very pleased with the outstanding work yall do. I'm very pleased with my purchase of this tent. Thank you #zpacks

Looking fire. I had been wondering if the plexamid would have a new little brother with the Altaplex style top. Props for the new addition to the shelters 👌

Well, I went ahead and bought one. Hoping it makes it through the AZT and PCT this year. I've never used anything but Big Agnes, until now.

Ok, if this is the altaplex mini, where’s the altaplex XL for people Matt size? Is it coming next month?

This vs the plexamid.
Is there anything the plexamid has better?

Any plans to ever make a 1 person version of the Duplex? Basically the current design of the Duplex, but not as wide? Two doors, tried and true design, it can fit now in smaller places. I've always hoped that you guys would do that.

This is a great product and nice move by Zpacks. Clearly the front runner over GG one and other competitors. Its very tempting, but whats holding me back is why is it so freaking tall? I'm 5'7" so the ceiling is like a cathedral. Excessively tall for average hikers, more wind to catch and flap, and 120 cm trekking poles are no where near long enough even pushing the extension limit of the poles. This necessitates a single use pole jack which is what ultalighters and minimalists are trying to avoid. An additional piece of critical gear to keep track of and to lose. Quickly looking at REI, the majority of trekking poles they sell don't extend to the required length.

So close, really close, but I'm hoping there's a version coming for short to average men and women.
Would pull the trigger on something like a Hexamid Solo if Zpacks offered an option for replacing the screen floor with a bath tub floor or this Plex Solo tent with 49" or less height to accommodate common poles.
Still this is a great tent for average to taller peeps. Nice going Zpacks.

First let me say I love and own a lot of your products including 4 tents. Triplex, Duplex, Altaplex and Plex Solo. All of your tents are great!
However, I have always had one extremely minor wish in a design change. After reading every comment to this video it seems several people are wanting the same thing. It’s the only reoccurring suggestion in the comments.
Get rid of the rainbow zipper and replace it with an inverted D on half the netting similar to the zipper on the Gosamer The One.
Here is the rationale.
1-You don’t need the entire length of the tent to open since there is a trekking pole in the middle forcing you to get in and out on one half or the other.
2-When you open the door the whole thing including the zipper falls down. This potentially causes multiple problems.
a-The zipper and door can fall into the dirt or sand. Some dirt is extremely fine and gets all over the zipper and door.
b-Because the zipper is now on the ground you may inadvertently step on it causing unnecessary wear and tear.
Granted, all of these issues can be prevented by making sure the zipper falls inside the tent and not outside and by simply watching where you step. But #3 is my main reason. When you open up the entire wall and it drops to the floor instead of being inverted and hanging from the top it lets in a ton of mosquitoes.
Again, I own several of your tents. I read every comment to this video and it’s the one reoccurring request. Get rid of the rainbow fall in the dirt mosquito vacuum and replace it with an inverted D on one half and I’ll be buying another Zpacks tent.

I'm, perhaps in vain, holding out hope for a smaller version of the Plex Solo. Theres the Alta Plex for very tall peeps, this tent for average to kinda tall, and kind of an open spot for a Plex Solo Mini. Many don't need the height or the larger foot print and pitching on small sites in a pinch has saved me many o' times. Please?

Which tent do you guys recommend for tall hikers (6.5 to 7ft)?
Buy the way, you shocked me with bringing Chester Bennington back to life in this video ;)

The tent looks amazing. But I have one stupid question. My carbon trekking poles can be extended to 130 centimeters maximum which is 51 inches. You say 52 inches pole should be used while setting up the tent.

Do you think 51 inches pole would be enough?

This question is about 1 Inch difference, so that is why I consider it “stupid”. But still, when you purchase tent this expensive, you want to make sure everything is OK 😄

this door configuration is not convenient for cooking in the vestibule when there are a lot of insects
