You hear this happening often, when the guards are humane to the prisoners. You can't trust the prisoners to be good to you if you're good to them, but it raises the chances that they'll help you if you treat them as human, even if it might be REALLY hard to do, given what their records could be.

My brother is a sheriff, he said he doesn't believe people are born evil, they had a hard life and had to do what they had to do and life made them chose to do this. He never looks at them differently and treats them with respect. Alot of the inmates likes him too.
