P.O.V.: a bunch of families failed to realise that regardless of the gender of their children, if you're awful to your kids, they won't care about you when you are an elder

Many girls also grew resentful of this and became very successful people, often over seas and then parents suddenly find her "as an attractive woman to marry off" because she basically built her own dowry. Then try to pair her off with some nobody at the village. I use to split an apartment with Chinese students, and often they tell me something along the lines of "I dont want to go back because they only want to marry me off, but i want to have a career and make money. But most of the boys they choose have no future. I want to show them I can be the son."
One girl even said "my parents are stupid. They wanted me to marry. I got a scholarship and came here. Some students come here as little princesses and little emperors. I will go back as an Empress."

Now their sons can grow old taking care of their parents instead of children since there is no wife for them

Sad!!!
NOW, baby boys in China will be named 'Hope to find a wife', 'Dreaming of a wife', 'Wife is coming', 'Welcoming a Wife', 'Requesting a wife'! and 'Second only to finding a wife' 🥴🌺💝

My grandma got laughed at for having daughters only. Her reaction to when I told her the sex is determined by the father still haunts me. However, in old age her daughters cared for their parents so well, while her sisters' sons neglected their parents. At the end of her life, she expressed pride and gratitude for having had daughters.

I think it’s sad some countries only value sons, as if daughters aren’t capable. I have 2 adult daughters and the oldest is a lawyer so that debunks that belief.

how horrible to go about your life with a name which means you’re not wanted

funny how the son is the one supposed to take care of the elderly parents when in reality, all that responsibility is dropped on his wife, who will be treated even worse than a daughter. i’ve heard many horror stories of evil east asian in-laws who make their daughter in law’s life impossible

“Only sons can take care of elders”

Meanwhile the daughters doing everything around the house: are we a joke to you?

It’s funny when parents prefer sons over daughters. I’m not Chinese but also come from similar Asian household background. My parents preferred my brother and doted and spoiled him but now he’s a deadbeat with no degree or high school diploma, still lives at home with a small job and my parents ask me to help. I’m like, “Sorry no lol.”

Someone in China once said: "Women hold up half the sky"

If my parents named me 'second only to men' they better HOPE their son will care for them bc they're going to the cheap nursing home if its on my term.

I am from India and getting a son is also used to be a obsession here. My mom only gives birth 3 daughters including me. So the family always blamed her for not being the mother of a son. Meanwhile my dad also blamed her even tho it's his fault biologically.
Years past now my sister's are doctors and the only female doctors in our family. I am just 16 years old. My mom is proud of my sister's.

This reminded me of that one news article from China where a woman was abandoned by her parents and only returned to sue because she bought an apartment for her cousin but not her brother.

Except sons almost never take care of their elders, parents, children and wife.

Thank you for sharing this. In some parts of India it is the same unfortunately

Funny how the only reason they want a son is to SERVE them. So technically it's never about love but as investment for when they are old. Which explains why those elders keep guilt tripping young gens to obey them

One of my friends is from China she wasn't treated right mostly her parents she had 3 older brothers. They were treated nicely and we did this host family thing my aunt and uncle hosted her. My uncle is from China he was treated like shit growing up he wasn't the golden child in his parents eyes so he cut contact. So he treated my friend like his daughter and when we took the Act she made a 33 and chose our state school she didn't want to go back. My aunt and uncle paid for her citizenship and she aced it and now she has kids and my aunt and uncle are grandparents now. When my friend's parents contacted her they asked her if she's coming back she said no there's no life for her there because the moment she comes back thier going to marry her off and that's not happening. Her parents were disappointed and told her shes a disappointment she said she doesn't care because she's gotten her citizenship and graduated from college has a PhD degree and is about to get married. Her parents usually call her how's she's doing she shuts it down because they want money and her brothers aren't doing to good. Safe to say I'm glad the women in China are call out the shots and getting the last laugh.

Once another Chinese creator who spoke about this topic on YouTube said something along the lines of:
"Where are our sons brides? Theyre buried!"
