George Carlin: "These are the same people who sort their garbage, jog with their dogs, and listen to Steely Dan, you know?" 😉 In the Classic Albums documentary, both Fagen & Becker seem to claim this as a personal favourite. I am not monetized so please like & subscribe. Thanks & enjoy! (Lyrics & personnel below).
Donald Fagen – synthesizers, vocals.
Walter Becker – guitar solos.
Victor Feldman – electric piano.
Larry Carlton – guitar.
Dean Parks – guitar.
Chuck Rainey – bass.
Jim Keltner – drums, percussion.

Lyrics: We're gonna break out the hats and hooters
When Josie comes home
We're gonna rev up the motor scooters
When Josie comes home to stay
We're gonna park in the street
Sleep on the beach and make it
Throw down the jam till the girls say when
Lay down the law and break it
When Josie comes home

When Josie comes home
So good
She's the pride of the neighborhood
She's the raw flame
The live wire
She prays like a Roman
With her eyes on fire

Jo would you love to scrapple
She'll never say no
Shine up the battle apple
We'll shake 'em all down tonight
We're gonna mix in the street
Strike at the stroke of midnight
Dance on the bones till the girls say when
Pick up what's left by daylight
When Josie comes home

When Josie comes home
So bad
She's the best friend we never had
She's the raw flame
The live wire
She prays like a Roman
With her eyes on fire

When Josie comes home
So good
She's the pride of the neighborhood
She's the raw flame
The live wire
She prays like a Roman
With her eyes on fire

How lucky we are that Walter Becker & Donald Fagen didn't lash themselves to the mast of the typical 1970's band formula. They would pick and choose from the BEST Session musicians, people who could blow the typical rock star away with their mastery of their instruments and then get them to play each song so perfectly and uniquely. One of the best things about Steely Dan is you can listen to it over and over and just isolate each instrument and how they are layered together so perfectly. Its just so damn good its almost unbelievable.

Steely Dan was producing the best vibes before that was a thing. Taste & class in spades.

Steely Dan is basically a jazz-rock orchestra.

Aja is one of my "stranded on a desert island" albums. And this is one of my favorite tracks on Aja! I still remember the first time I heard it, in '78 when I was 19; it was my roommates 8 track tape of the month! LOL. Rick Beato does a fascinating breakdown of why this is a great song.

My father was in radio when I was growing up and I always got the demos. But when this came out I knew I was leaving my parents house soon and so I bought my first album:Aja. I must have worn the grooves off. When I worked, I think I drove my boss crazy because when I got tips, I’d pop quarters in the juke box and play Josie, Peg, Home At Last and all the rest. Since he was in radio, I got to meet Carlin, I wasn’t that impressed. He was really egotistical. But Aja was for the ages.
