What's the best book you've read this month?

I feel like when someone reads a book and they say " I can't say anything because everything is a spoiler because nothing happens" is one of the biggest burn a book can get 😂

you should have a segment in one of your end of the year videos where you do an "In Memory of" for all the books you dnf'd. I'm imagining black and white slow motion clips of you holding up the books with the title of the book on the screen and how many pages you read out of the total page count. Sad piano music too of course.

Emily (and me): "The ending of 2001 was just too weird for me."

Sci-fi die-hards: "See, YoU jUsT dOn'T gEt It, E-MAH-LEE."

The name of the wind is my favorite book of all time! The wise man’s fear isn’t as good, but I still enjoyed very much.

I found two new favorites this month! Jade City by Fonda Lee and The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter

kubrick's 2001 is actually such a classic sci fi film! highly recommend

I want to read The name of the wind but I'm trying to avoid reading unfinished series cause I'm already waiting for The winds of winter and the wait is no fun

I'm glad you're getting over.the slump. This year has just been hard all around. I think this may be the first time our opinions on books have diverged so much. I loved Leviathan Wakes. My favorite book of this month is actually Nemesis Games which is book 5 in the series. I love the tv show as well . I also really liked Children of Ruin even though it was similar to the first I liked the octopodes and the thing with Kern enough to overshadow the iffy end. 2001 was weird to me too so we still have that in common. :)

I definitely know what you mean about the Wayward Children series. I haven't loved any of them but they have enough story to want you to try the next one. At least they are pretty short so they are worth the read. I didn't even know another book was coming out, I will probably pick it up 🤣

I finally finished reading Dune this month! I had been reading it since April of this year.

I may be biased because most of my favorite movies are older, but 2001: A Space Odyssey movie is very much worth watching. Even just for how visually stunning it is. There likely will never be a modern adaptation of it because the film is widely regarded as a masterpiece. Any modern adaptation will likely set itself up for comparison and thus failure.

I actually watched the Expanse first and then read Leviathan Wakes and loved it!! Book 2 has two really cool female characters as POVs and the Expanse actually brings one of them into season 1 which I really enjoyed (though I'd warn that the first two/three episodes of season 1 are a little confusing and also kind of try too hard to be edgy but then it really settles into something good). I'm usually one of the people cheering you on when you point out ridiculous quotes (because tbh classic scifi has so many of them) but for this one I think it's probably from Miller's POV, and, well, he's kind of a loser with a miserable life, so it fits him lol

Since you like magic schools you might want to check out Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor. It's not a traditional magic school by any means but a cool story (duology) nonetheless. I do believe it's YA though some even categorize As middle grade. I'm currently reading the second book A late Warrior. Also reading Thick by Tressie McMillan Cottom, trying to finish Voyage of the Basilisk by Marie Brennan (seems I've been reading this for at least a year, lol). Oh I just finished Wild Seed by Octavia Butler, audible audio, and wow what a weird story but good and well-written book. My first Octavia Butler! I will read the next in The Patternmaster series. Thanks for sharing!

I'm so glad you enjoyed The Name of the Wind, it's been on my shelf for years too! I had high hopes for Leviathan Wakes but now I'm like.. Mmm I don't know lol and I'm happy you got to read Across the Green Grass Fields early, even though it wasn't your favorite! I'm about to read The Fifth Season soon, I can't wait 😍📖
